Authentication Using Passkey

Instructions

IBKR allows users to authenticate their login using passkeys.

Passkeys

  • are a software or hardware-based solution that relies on biometric verification (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint) or physical security keys, eliminating the need to manually enter authentication codes.

  • use phishing-resistant by design, using advanced cryptographic technology to provide secure authentication and protect your account from unauthorized access.

  • are a modern and highly secure form of two-factor authentication (2FA) based on the WebAuthn/FIDO2 industry standard.

The standard we adhere to for the Passkey implementation is supported by a number of devices and platforms including iPhones (iOS 16+), Android phones (Android 9+), physical security keys (YubiKey, Google Titan, Token2), and Password Managers (1Password, LastPass, etc.).

This wide hardware and software support for storing and using Passkeys allows you a great degree of freedom when choosing your authentication method. If you are already using a device or password manager with passkey support for other services, you may simply add your IBKR account to it, otherwise you may use your mobile phone, a password manager with passkey support, or a physical security key to register a new passkey.
