Steps in the Application Process

When completing electronic account applications, the steps include:

  1. Specify the client type and base currency.
  2. Enter financial information, including date of birth, investment objectives, net worth and annual net income.
  3. Select the account type and trading permissions, including products you want to trade and countries in which you want to trade.
  4. Confirm the account configuration you selected in the previous steps.
  5. Accept our ID Procedures.
  6. Enter name, address and telephone information.
  7. Enter mailing address information.
  8. Enter personal information.
  9. Specify individual regulatory information.
  10. Complete a W-8BEN form.
  11. Specify fees.
  12. Review the application for errors.

Note: Advisor clients are no longer required to provide investment experience at the time of application, unless trading is enabled on the account. Should a client become trade enabled or if the account is delinked, they will be prompted to provide their investment experience at that time. This applies to all IBKR entities except IBA.
